The Standard American Diet is defined by it's acronym, SAD. In a world where sea-salt covered pretzels and a diet soda are considered healthy alternatives, Marie Sarantakis provides an accessible introductory guide to pure and healthy eating. Marie's approach is simple and realistic. We need to integrate more raw fresh fruits and vegetables into our diets on a daily basis. This no nonsense guide will answer your basic questions, teach you the fundamental benefits of pure food, and provide you with ten days worth of raw vegan recipes. Life is too short not to eat raw and it's even shorter if you don't.

Essentially Raw edition by Marie Sarantakis Health Fitness Dieting eBooks

A guide to the raw food diet - what can make it more accesible and user-friendly. I'm not planning on starting a raw food diet, but have read about it's supposed benefits and saw this on the free kindle list and thought I'd read up on it a bit more. The author does a good job of presenting this as a "do-able" lifestyle change and is not at all preachy or evangelical about it all. She suggests starting small and introducing a little more raw food into your diet and gradually increasing it to something like 51%. I will be trying some of her suggestions to include more in our family diet.

Essentially Raw edition by Marie Sarantakis Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

This is an amazing read! I've never been much into raw foods but wow, my view (and taste) has completely changed. I feel rejuvenated and healthy everyday now since changing my diet. I cannot recommend this book enough! 5/5
This book does an excellent job at giving you the raw basics. For a newbie and vegtable lover like myself I really enjoyed all the nutritional breakdown of both veggies and fruits. Its a no pressure just eat clean kind of book that reminds us all to eat foods that can serve us in both beauty and health.
this is one of my FAV books!! the alphabetical order and nutritional facts are east to read and accurate. I love ths book!
This recipe book looks equally as interesting...I am really liking this whole idea of veggies and healthy eating...WE can get so caught up with the "way it has always been" Thank You
This was a pretty good read with lots of information for someone thinking of going raw. I did like that there was plenty of information about the different fruits and veggies, but it was a little dry.
I give the author an "A" for effort. She has assembled a rather good collection of "opinions" because nothing is cited and there isn't a section offering a list of sources for additional reading. Not what I would expect from something touting the benefits of the diet and it's components. If you want a very basic, unsupported overview of what a raw diet consists of, this is a good place to start.

"Alkaline water has many acclaimed benefits. Most importantly, it has the ability to neutralize the body's acidity from stress and poor diet, fighting acidosis. Many diseases are related to elevated levels of acidity, such as acid reflux disease, inflammation, heart disease, high cholesterol, and obesity. Alkaline water can help flush out toxins and eliminate acidic-loaded cells that have been converted into fat, which will help you attain your ideal body weight. Plus the hydroxyl ions in alkaline water are an antioxidant and can reduce premature aging by eliminating free radicals." Sarantakis, Marie (2012-06-01). Essentially Raw (p. 35). Adrikos Media. Edition.

No source listed, nothing to back up her claims. Or how about

"Depression and mood swings are often rooted in nutritional deficiency. You know how when a small child is feeling tired or hungry they throw a tantrum. We really don't change that much as we grow older, we just learn to conceal it better. There are overwhelming numbers of personal accounts where people find years of depression start to vanish when going raw. This may be explained by improved self-image, increased health, boosted energy levels, among several other factors. While Americans are popping more pills for depression than ever before, holistic alternatives are finally starting to play a strong role in the arena of healing. Foods such as raw cacao, cauliflower, and whole grain oats are particularly effective at enhancing your mood." Sarantakis, Marie (2012-06-01). Essentially Raw (p. 26). Adrikos Media. Edition.

I looked for some sort of credentialing and found nothing. Please be aware that I am not trying to bash the author - merely to point out that a book that contains claims such as the ones in here, need documentation and support.

Granted, most of what is in this book is common knowledge to those who are familiar with the raw diet, but the book was written for beginners. Note the 10 days worth of recipes was so far beyond the scope of understanding for most beginners that it makes the whole raw diet plan look daunting. Not to mention, I have seen quite a few of the recipes in other books on the subject.

The price was free so I can't complain too much but if you are truly looking to experience the raw food diet, I would start with something like "Live Raw" by Mimi Kirk. Live Raw About $10.00 through and totally worth the price.
I've been trying to get my family on a raw diet for sometime, and have read many books on the subject. However, this one is the best I've found- the author really knows her stuff! Well written and very thoroughly researched, this is the perfect book regarding the how and why of going raw. The bonus recipes seal the deal. Awesome!
